Lots of art stuff going on this month! Here are the ones I’m most excited about:
EXPO Chicago at Navy Pier: This is the biggie. I didn’t get to go last year (the show’s first year), so I’m determined to go this year. Since Art Chicago got nixed (I’m still a bit bitter about this) and the organizers told us we weren’t cool enough for such art, Chicago has been out on a mission to prove them wrong. Expo Art Week, which involves more art and galleries than anyone can handle in a week is planned for September 16-22 and the expo will take place September 19- 22. For more info, here’s their website, but even more useful, the official guide by Newcity with the whole week and expo outlined.
Renegade Craft Fair– Always a great event with lots of local artists involved. I posted some photos from last year’s fair on the blog here (Although I can’t guarantee that there will be adorable puppies sleeping in purses this year, let’s all keep our fingers crossed!). Anyway, the fair is this upcoming weekend on September 7 and 8. http://www.renegadecraft.com/chicago-summer-home
Zarina: Paper Like Skin at the Art Institute– I can’t tell you anything about this show other than I’d love to see it before it ends on September 22nd. The Art Institute of Chicago website, however, can tell you a lot more.
DePaul Faculty Exhibition at the DePaul Art Museum– Of course, I’m biased towards this one since some of these artists were my professors. But, biased or not, I am excited to see this show. While the show is up all month, the reception is on September 18th from 6-8pm. More info here.
In Progress Benefit Auction at the Annex at Spudnik Press– ok, even more biased on this one, but another great event on September 28th :) This one will be a fundraiser for Spudnik with an auction of artwork by numerous artists taking place. I’ll have more info on my own involvement later this month, but I will have my studio open at the event, so come by and say hello! More info on Spudnik’s website.
Ok, and if you made it this far down the post, I would be wrong to not mention the fine art of television… I’m booked for the last week of September on account of all my favorite fictional friends are coming back and I can’t wait to spend time with them. I will solve murders with Castle, try to figure out who my mother is with Ted and the gang, question traditional parenting with Phil and Claire, sing some country with Rayna and Juliette and finish the week off figuring out the meaning of family with the Bravermans :)
