Rediscovered Nazi-looted Art in Munich

Otto Dix

One of the paintings discovered. Painted by Otto Dix.

For the last couple of days, I’ve been following this story about the discovery of about 15,000 artworks in Munich that were confiscated by the Nazis.  The amount of art found is mind-blowing, isn’t it?  Also, who knew Picasso and Matisse would be putting ‘new’ pieces out into the art market in 2013?  As if I didn’t have enough competition to deal with… ;) (ok, fine, Matisse and I are not exactly in the same market).    Right now, it seems like the story is still a bit of a mess.  There’s some accusations being flung at Germany for keeping their discovery a secret for two years, there also seems to be little information out on what exactly has been found.  What is known, however, is that the pieces were confiscated by the Nazis who considered them degenerate art, which basically meant they were modern pieces.   I am very excited to see what exactly comes out of all this.
